CEC Freedom-class star defender by Shoguneagle CEC Freedom-class star defender by Shoguneagle

With the loss of Kuat’s shipyards and the Victory-I and Venator-class star destroyers that quickly became obsolete in the face of the CIS/Galactic Dominion’s fearsome Imperator-class star destroyers, capital warship designers across the Republic scrambled to design and field vessels that could stand toe-to-toe with those terrors. A new type of warship emerged, dubbed “star defender,” beginning with Rendili StarDrive’s Liberty-class. The Corellian Engineering Corporation, eager to compete with Rendili’s yards, constructed the Freedom-class star defender; a swift, yet stout ship that doubled not only as a battleship, but a fleet carrier, making good use of the Galactic Republic’s numerous starfighter squadrons. Part of the Father and Son of the Suns infinities setting.

Incredible ship. I assume that the front of the ship is the main hanger bay? Also, where is this Liberty class star defender that was mentioned in the description? Will it be something that we see in the future?

You are correct. And the Liberty-class star defender will be commissioned too at some point.

Amazing artwork. Great design.

I'm really liking your designs, artwork AND stat capsules. Do you have a "General Background" for your version of the Star Wars Universe? I'm running  a 'net-based, New Republic-era d20 campaign (w/some d6 elements that I like "thrown back in" for a richer "flavor") called The Departed, inspired by and based loosely upon the breakup of the old Soviet Union, and the resultant European (and World!) turmoil created by that power vacuum.

"Departed" refers to not only a serious departure from the established EU canon (something I see you have no problem with LOL), but also to the fact that all the major players are either ex-Rebels, leaving the staid, bureaucratic quagmire that the New Republic has become, or ex-Imperials, leaving the chaotic Imperial Remnant for saner pastures.

The main characters have banded together, pooled their resources, and started a "Private Security Firm" (think Blackwater, but much nicer) called FireFly Security Services (from an old d6 game back in '89; Joss Whedon was over a decade late with HIS "FireFly!")

Well, the man behind the designs/artwork is the great Adam Kopala, of whom I've commissioned for many of these pieces. The setting itself is Father and Son of the Suns, an alternate universe where Anakin never fell to the Dark Side, Palpatine/Darth Sidious was killed... and yet, the Clone Wars continued to rage, until the rise of Executor Tarkin, the supreme leader of the imperialistic Galactic Dominion and the emergence of the Galactic Civil War with a struggling Galactic Republic (naturally, leading up to an alternate version of A New Hope).

Your own setting is quite intriguing in itself. It's something I would certainly be interested in roleplaying in, if not for the regular world <grumble grumble> and long work hours.

Well, at this point, it's mostly a 'net-based, play-by-post game, which makes it little more than a fan-fic, but the collaborative efforts between several people, passing posts-in-the-making back-and-forth via shared Google Drive, has been interesting and fun; we've taken the "game" in new and interesting directions I never (originally) envisioned.

But we're pretty firmly based on WotC's d20 Star Wars Role Playing Game, with plenty of neat stuff we liked from WEG's older d6 system ported over for more "flavor." I've shamelessly and ruthlessly pillaged and plundered art and ideas from DA to add to my own game, but I leave the artwork's title (with DA user-name intact) unchanged, so everyone knows where the real credit is due.

No offense, but the story idea is more valid than the Mon Calamari and their convenient array of heavy starships!!

Sides, great design too :D

While I love the Mon Calamari vessels, besides the Corellian Corvettes, the Nebulon-B frigates and the Gallofree transports, you don't really see much else for the Rebel capital ships. The Return of the Jedi novelization hints at Kessellian war galleys and Corellian battleships, so I thought, let's see some of those "big Corellian ships" that Han Solo claimed that he had outrun. :)

I know what you mean - and I agree - but its nice to see something different - if they can modify Quaser Class freighters into fighter carriers, why not anything else?

Cheers matey :)
