Only weapons within the specific zone adjacent to an attacking ship can be brought to bear at any given time; often, the actual number of weapons that can be brought to bear is significantly lower.
***Death Star Alpha’s shields are extendable up to 24 SU, enabling the superweapon to protect nearby fleets (or even other Death Star-scale battlestations). While its shields are extended, however, Death Star Alpha cannot fire the superlaser, due to the sheer amount of energy diverted. Up to 14D worth of Death Star-scale shielding may be projected.

Upon the unexpected destruction of the Ultimate Weapon during the Battle of Alderaan, Executor Tarkin and his New Order proponents, in spite of the flaws manifest within the superweapon, had no intention of abandoning the Conquest Through Fear doctrine. With the completion of the first line of Absolute-class star dreadnaughts to operate as fleet command ships and thousands of Star Destroyers at their beck and call, the Dominion possessed an immense projection of naval power that at first rivaled, then later began to dominate the Galactic Republic. Additionally, the annihilation of the Republic’s capital of Chandrila sent shock across Republic space, and member systems were wary of the possible existence of future superweapons that could kill billions in the blink of an eye. Fear that was well-warranted.

In orbit of the Forest Moon of Endor, two secretive megaconstruction projects are underway. Addressing the weaknesses of the Ultimate Weapon, the two battle stations, named Death Stars Alpha and Omega, are meant to be the Dominion’s final answer to its desired conquest of the galaxy. Death Star Alpha, while containing a less powerful superlaser, is equipped with extendable shield generator banks, with enough power and range to enshroud both superweapons from energy and projectile weapons fire. Death Star Omega contains a far more powerful version of the Ultimate Weapon’s superlaser, and houses more firepower than half of the Dominion Navy.
