World of Able Archer 83

In summary, the world as we knew it ended on November 8th, 1983, in which an incorrectly-concluded alert prompted Soviet nuclear forces to launch a preemptive strike against the United States and NATO countries, coinciding with the peak day of NATO's Able Archer exercise, whose nuclear forces had reached DEFCON 1. Much of the first and second world was devastated during the short, but intense nuclear conflict; the horrors of mutually-assured destruction finally realized.

Fast-forward to the year 2092. The world has begun to recover from the collapse of civilization. The splintered nations that once made up the United States are rising from the ashes, each with a stated goal to reunite the continent under one flag. Much has been referenced on the map for brevity sakes (and lack of a good color palette) and is not necessarily representative of these nations/states' capabilities or status. Some nations have been absorbed into larger ones, while others have broken off to become their own identity. As global communication is slow to be restored, many are unaware that other countries and their populations even exist.
