Background:
Life is always an adventure to Elise Cannon, even though she was born to well-to-do parents on the normally tranquil world of Caprioril in the Core. As child, she found herself wondering out of daycare to walk around and look at the different plants and animals that lived around the building, much to the dismay (and worry) of the daycare staff.
Her parents insisted that she would become a banker or financial manager, employment they considered lucrative and prestigious, and pushed their daughter into upper academic classes of mathematics and the sciences, and when she grew into her teenage years, business and accounting. While she excelled at the sciences (especially biology), her interest dwindled in the classes her parents pushed, and her grades in those courses plummeted.

Determined to escape the uninspiring lifestyle her parents lived (and their aspirations to mold her into someone mirroring them), Elise applied to the University of Sanbra, hoping to that her high marks in biology would earn her a full-ride scholarship. She knew that her parents wouldn’t pay for her to attend a university geared specifically for her interests, and by making her own way, Elise would defy them yet again.

Months passed and graduation of senior high school neared. Finally, the holomessage from the Dean of Admissions was received. Elise was accepted, and her tuition was covered… under one condition. The university deemed that Elise must go on a survey team no later than a timeframe during her sophomore or junior year. Overjoyed, she revealed her intentions to her parents. Naturally, they were outraged and demanded that Elise reject the admission. She didn’t, and the day after graduation, she grabbed what few belongings she had and spent her savings on a one-way ticket to the University of Sanbra, Chandrila branch.

Two years passed while Elise attended the Chandrila branch, gaining a profound grasp of both biology and xenobiology. But she would learn another path to take during an extended expedition into the Chandrian plains. One of her close friends, Seliel, poisoned herself badly by incorrectly identifying a mushroom that shouldn’t have been eaten. Elise was the only one beside her and her friend had nearly died because she didn’t possess the knowledge or the confidence to neutralize the mushroom’s poison. Elise decided to take courses in first aid and medicine, believing that the knowledge would one day come in handy in the field and perhaps prevent another friend from potentially losing their life.

The time had come for Elise to join the survey team agreed upon with the university. The sponsored team (including Elise) left aboard a MU-2 shuttle bound for Wild Space. Arriving two weeks at the recently discovered world, dubbed UHW-202 (Unpopulated Habitable World), the Sanbra survey team set foot on the surface. Elise was assigned to the Xenobiology Section, along with Winson Mathers (a sophomore prodigy from Corulag) and Benella Refen (a senior Celanon): their purpose was to research and classify various plant and animal species within a two mile radius of the team’s campsite. The entire survey team set camp and subsequent went to sleep.

At first light, Elise and her team set out for their assignment while the rest of the survey team began conducting their research sweeps. After several hours of researched, Elise and her companions returned to the camp site, only to find the others sickened or already dead. They raced to discover the origin of what had caused the pandemic.

A horrifying discovery was made. A rare plant, mere meters from the shuttle’s landing site, emitted a subtle, but dangerous type of bacterium as a defense mechanism. The bacterium viciously attacks the blood cells of humans once it enters the body. Certain blood types aren’t affected due to certain differences in the blood’s chemistry. Benella was Celanan, and thereby unaffected. Elise was simply lucky. But without a crew to pilot the shuttle, the two survivors were stranded on the world, with only a distress beacon to hopefully lure in a rescue party…

One month had passed. A rescue shuttle, sent on behalf of the New Republic Scout Service (at the request of the university), arrived on UHW-202. They found Elise and Benella huddled together: cold, soaked, and hungry, but alive nonetheless. Winson had died three weeks earlier, after Elise and Benella had attempted to treat the blood infection that had slowly consumed him. Left alone, they scavenged whatever was edible, purified what little water was available. They had survived.

Elise was shaken deeply by the event, initially believing her skills to be inadequate. But having seen death in the face, there was nothing to fear anymore. She vowed to become more knowledgable of the universe around her and a better survivalist. In spite of the cards that had been dealt to her, she believed more than ever how important it was to learn about the unknown.

The last three years has molded Elise into an experienced scout and xenobiologist, a graduate of the University of Sanbra with majors in Xenobiology and Medicine. Having been on four surveys since the events of UHW-202, she thirsts for additional challenges and wants more than ever before to learn about and experience the unknown.

Physical Description: Elise has light blond hair, kept at about shoulder length (usually with a pair of sunglasses or goggles resting on top), and striking hazel eyes. She has a slender build and typically wears clothing loose, but comfortable to aid in movement and survey/scout duties. She would be regarded as cute and sunny (from frequently smiling).

Personality: Curious and intuitive, Elise seeks the answers to the universe around her. She possesses a naturally bubbly personality, making light of even dire situations (which may or may not get on other people’s nerves). Any danger she encounters in her work doesn’t seem to faze her; it’s all a part of the experience.

Objectives: To discover new and exotic species and find something noteworthy. To explore uncharted worlds and be the first to set foot upon them. To prove to her parents that are more important things in life than business and turning a profit.
